Ms. Smathers,

After all that has been alleged in the Mindspring newsgroups this week I had my account password changed. It became apparent to me this weekend that the problems were originating from my account over this weekend and today (Sunday) I decided to find out exactly how this was happening.

Tonight, I had a meeting with my 4 children. I have 2 children in their early 20's who still live at home during the summer. After a session of repeated denial from my children and threats by me I discovered that my 23 year old son and my 21 year old daughters boyfriend were indeed responsible for the attacks against you. My sincere apologies for this.

As to my reactions to your various posts, it disturbs me greatly to read the posts on the newsgroups. I believe in free speech but I also believe in respect and integrity. While your response was accurate I felt it would have been more appropriate to simply call me or email me. I am a very reasonable person and would have likely have gotten to the root of the problem more quickly. To see my name thrown about the Internet by people who have no idea who I am was is very disturbing, especially in light of the fact that I personbally had nothing to do with the allegations. My apologies for my reaction but hopefully you will see why I reacted the way I did. My name is being smeared all over Mindspring due to the actions of others even though one is my son.

Anyway, please accept my sincere apologies for this entire episode. My son had been severely disciplined and I expect no further repeats of his actions, especially since his car has been taken away from him among other things. He showed me copies of the posts and messages he sent, as I discovered the contents of the outbox that I did not know existed in my software. What he sent was very distasteful and I sincerely apologize for them.

In all, I hope that if we ever communicate again, it will be on a friendly basis. I apologize that my account was used to harass you in those ways.

Please accept these apologies, and if this does happen again, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Richard Hillyard

Minspring is for losers. They do not offer a way to get to newsgroups unless you dial in direct. And their software sucks bigtime. They charge you for a shareware package. Just because they steal more out of your wallet does not make them better. It makes you stupid.

Mindspring is not as customer oriented as they claim. A friend of mine at CDC had his account terminated with no warning. His son was messing around on the net for the last few months since he got home fcollege and was harassing people. That Cynthia girl above complained. My friend found out what his son was doing and took his car away for the summer and then apologized immensely to Mindspring. They told him to get screwed that they don't need his money. They lost a lot last year $$$ wise. I hope they go down big time after waht they did to my friend. He is a really good guy and felt bad about what his son did until Mindspring gave it to him in the A$$.

We don't typically announce these in this forum, but since several people have inquired privately, I'll let you know:

For violation of our published policy on appropriate use of service-the account in question has been terminated.

I have also fielded several concerns from folks who are worried that InterRamp has become something of a spam haven, and that MindSpring's good "net-name" will soon be compromised.

I assure you that all of our accounts will be held to an increasingly strict standard of 'Net-conduct' as outlined on our Homepage at http://www.mindspring.com/aboutms/policy.html

At the risk of seeming draconian, we are going to be a "one strike, you're out" ISP.

Another typical Mindspring user response. I have never had an account with Mindspring. I will not pay that much and not have a shell account.

Nor do you allow any explanations or apologies. You do allow your users to slander the guy all over the net, even though he came to you when he found out what his son was doing and apologized. If you are in charge of this company then it will continue to lose money because all of you Mindspring folks are a bunch of cliquish SNOBS.

This girl is the cause of so many problems on the web with her righteous attitude. Give us the REAL REASON she was terminated as a Mindspring employee.

Try being civil to a user who went to you when he found out what was going on and you terminated his account with no warning. FYI, many others at CDC will be terminating their accounts today. We had a meeting and he detailed everything that happened and how he apologized, and how you screwed him with no warning at all. BTW, he is head of our connectivity dept. and has been making sure anyone who does business with his department knows what you did.

Aquaria Online has moved due to a dispute with Mindspring Enterprises of Atlanta, Georgia.

The new location for Aquaria Online is...

http://www.inetnow.net/~hillyard/aaaa.html

I think t\you will find the site much faster now that it has left Mindspring.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I have been using America Online for some time. It does many things that I don't like but one thing it does do very well is keep up with newsgroups. They update their servers for newsgroups about every hour. I doubt that any local internet access provider in Atlanta has the ability to do this so often but I am trying to find one. If you happen to know of a good local internet access provider in Atlanta that updates their servers for usenet newgroups more than once a day please let me know.

Thanks,

Actually I work with Mr. Hillyard at CDC and he told me about your fat soc.support.fat-acceptance attitude. What are you tipping the scales at anyway these days. Nice post about the Overeasters Anonymous meetings.

Anbd how come your hubby has custody of your kid? Been wondering about that.

Valedictorian from Berkmar in 84 and 12 years later you have maybe 2 years of college. Hmm', guess you can't pull away from the table to go to class. Oh well, this is all public knowledge since I read it on your Homepage today. Except the fat group. I have a way to read the messages that you told Dejanews not to display.

Well Cyndi, they do charge more than ibm.net and inetnow and crl, and future services and etc. etc. etc. and they all offer everything Mindspring does and TELNET as well. Plus, they don't have you sneaking around harassing people.

BTW, Mr. Hillyard has an account already with a competitor who is much less and offeres T3's and Telnet and multiple mailboxes. I'm sure with your savvy you can find him and harass him some more.

Guess what Cyndi. Every time you access his page, he makes money. See those ads all over the place. How ironic. When I see him tomorrow, I'll tell him the "fat lady" is putting money into his pocket. When that thing loads it also tells him the IP address of each visitor. Can't wait to go to work to see how much he made off of you today.

What kind of imbecile are you Robbie. You are a technophobe which means you should be a Mindspring customer.

You can telnet into INETNOW if you have an account with them.

You can't telnet into Mindspring if you have 100 accounts with them.

And what is that response. For one thing, you cannot telnet into their news server. It's impossible. They do not support it.

Ibm has T3s on their service. CRL has T3's. Mindspring is simply the most expensive T3. And the others allow you to Telnet in.

That FSU is a "football school" is not particularly a flame anymore. They seem to be slowly losing that status as well.

Mr. Wood,

That excellent provider that Cyndi spoke of? Well their WWW server has been down for more than 5 hours this morning. That is the EXTRA service you get for the EXTRA money. Yo would think that they would have a backup, but with all the extra money that they charge I think they still lost about 2 million last year.

Mr. Legg
